Performance of Kisan Credit Card Scheme by Regional Rural Banks in Punjab

Abstract

The nationalization of banks in 1969, entry of commercial banks and emergence of Regional Rural Banks in 1975 gave widerreach to short term delivery system in the country. The main objective of the present study is to assess the performanceof Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme by the regional rural banks in Punjab. The performance has been studied in terms ofnumber of cards; and amount sanctioned, disbursed and outstanding at the end of each year. The period of the study isfrom 2003-04 to 2014-15. It is found that agency-wise growth of KCC scheme has shown ups and downs throughout theperiod of study both in terms of number of cards; and amount sanctioned and disbursed.
