PHARMACEUTICAL STUDY OF APAMARG KSHAR

Abstract

According to the ayurvedic concept any material which possesses the action of ksharan (To Scrap) should be regarded as kshar. Medically important kshar are traditionally restricted to only a limited number of medicinal plant. Kshar can be obtained from many sources belonging to the plant kingdom, animal, mineral origin. Before using kshar in surgical practice the raw material required should be identified and authenticated. It should be prepared by Standard Manufacturing Procedure prescribed in text. In this study pharmaceutical steps in the preparation of Apamarg Kshar is described in stepwise manner so that a person having basic knowledge of Ayurved can easily replicate the preparation on his own. The prepared kshar is assessed for quality parameters prescribed in Ayurved Pharmacopeia of India (API).
