Phytochemical screening and comparative study between two extraction techniques of phenolic and antioxidants compounds of Ephedra alata from Bechar region

Journal Title: PhytoChem & BioSub Journal - Year 2018, Vol 12, Issue 3

Abstract

The objectives of this work are the identification of molecules of secondary metabolism and evaluate the effect of two extraction techniques on the extraction efficiency of crude extracts, the phenolic compounds content and the antioxidative activity of the aerial part of Ephedra alata. Phytochemical tests show the presence of flavonoids, tannin, alkaloids, saponosides, cardiac glycosides, quinones, anthraquinones, and terpenes and the absence of anthocyanins, and leucoanthocyanins. Extraction by boiling under reflux in water offered a better yield (22%) compared to maceration extraction (15%) at room temperature in aqueous ethanol 70%. The quantification of the total phenolic compounds, flavonoids and condensed tannin show that the extract obtained by maceration in 70% ethanol is richer in these molecules with contents of 58.15 ± 0.12 mg GAE/g ; 29.07 ± 0.15 mg EC/g and 38.31 ± 0.22 mg EC/g , respectively, on the other side the evaluation of the antioxidative activity using 1, 1- diphenyl, 2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and phosphomolybdenum method shows that the extract obtained by reflux has a better activity with IC 50 of 0.37 mg / ml and a total antioxidative activity of 313.48 mg/ g EAA.
