PLACE AND ROLE OF FINLAND IN THE BALTIC REGION (1933-1939): GEOPOLITICAL CUT

Abstract

On the basis of analysis of archival documents, foreign and domestic historiography, mutual relations of Germany and Finland in 1933-1939 have been researched and analyzed. The articles of the Thesis cover the wide range of contacts, namely, foreign policy relations, military partnership, economical and cultural interference. Much attention in research of political partnership was paid to study of staff of governments and parliaments of the countries, political leaders and their influence on the change of foreign policy guiding lines of the countries. In the context of development of relations between Berlin and Helsinki the problem of «Northern Neutrality» as addition to German-Finnish Relations has also been researched. The most detailed attention was paid to research of military contacts of the countries, as in this sphere the contacts were the most active. As initial condition of military approach of Suomi and Germany, the author considers the problems of militarization of Germany and defense of Finland. A special emphasis has been given to the role of K.G. Mannerheim in the military partnership. Relations between Germany and Finland were considered by the author in general complex study of the situation on the international arena in 1930-ies and aggravation of interstate relations. In this relation the attitude of different countries to German-Finnish approach has been analyzed.
