Polish medical journals as an instrument for occupational improvement of family nurses

Abstract

Introduction and purpose: A modern family nurse, who is a professional in a team, has to continuously improve her/his professional skills. This is due to the regulations on the profession of a nurse and midwife and other legal documents. The aim of the presented study is to provide information on the role of medical journals in improving the skills of a family nurse. Brief description of the state of knowledge: The nurses have the ability to deepen their knowledge through participation in various forms of professional development, including complementary studies, postgraduate and training courses. In addition to the so-called formal training, there is also informal training, in the form of in-house training, conferences, symposia and congresses. Another form of professional development is the reading of specialist and professional literature. Scientific journals have always been and should continue to be a modern, fast source of scientific information in the field of nursing, and for an exchange of experiences between nurses. They should inspire the development of a professional career, production needs and intrinsic motivation to continuous learning and progress. Summary: Medical journals are a valuable source of information which will greatly enhance the knowledge of health professionals. The article presents the advantages and disadvantages of medical journals.Key words: medical journals, family nurse, professional development
