Польская шляхта на государственной службе в Сибири: проблемы идентификации
Journal Title: Dzieje Biurokracji - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
The text does not pay attention to the number of Poles holding positions in the Russian administration in Siberia, who of them considered himself to be Poles and who no longer, but who the supervisors of these clerks regarded as Poles and what consequences this had for their career. The Polish uprisings in 1830-1831 and 1863-1864 influenced the development of anti-Polish moods in Russian society. Nevertheless, Polish civil servants working in Siberia practically did not feel anti-Polish repression. The attention of the authorities was focused on the political exiles. It was different after the January Uprising, when especially in 1866, on the wave of suspicions that the Poles were preparing the uprising in Siberia, many Polish clerks were dismissed from work. The reason for recognition as a Pole, and therefore “politically suspect”, could be not only the origin or the religion, but also the wording of surnames or political views. The clerks themselves, or the superiors who wanted to keep them in office, had to prove that these suspicions were unfounded. Nevertheless, the shortage of civil servants caused that the Poles, including the political exiles, again appeared in the ranks of the Siberian administration.
