Ports as the development engine for small and middle businesses. The Specifc Case of Port Montt, Chile

Abstract

The importance that the small and middle businesses represent in Chile is manifested in the constant claim from different agents of these sectors for the lack of policies that could relate them with development centers in the country. The placement of ports is important in any country, due to the fact that they guarantee the entrance, exit and diversity of goods. In Chile, it’s specially important since the country has over 4.200 km of coastline. This importance increases with the logical development of bioceanic and main-land corridors.
