Everydayness/Historicalness duo in analizing labor union processes. Reflections from social anthropology perspective

Journal Title: Revista de Estudios Marítimos y Sociales - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 10

Abstract

Studies of labor, workers, and union processes have a rich tradition in Latin America in the disciplinary field of anthropology. In this article, we start from this heritage for a reflection about: a-the theoretical and methodological contributions of critical social anthropology to this problem area; b-recent interdisciplinary debates and dialogues on trade union action and workers organizational experiences; and c- theoretical orientation and major findings in the ongoing research on the processes of trade organization of agro-industrial workers (oil and meatpacking industry) of Greater Rosario, Santa Fe province, Argentina. We conclude by asserting the importance of theoretical and methodological duo everydayness / historicalness for analyzing union processes. Particularly the importance of addressing the practices and relationships that workers built in their workplaces during the 90s as constitutive of recent union experiences.
