Social inequality and extent of poverty in the case of Tarragona
Journal Title: Revista de Estudios Marítimos y Sociales - Year 2010, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
This article presents data on social inequality and poverty in Tarragona (Catalonia) resulting from the Survey on Living Conditions of the Population of Tarragona, which was adapted from the Survey of Living Conditions carried out every year by the National Institute of Statistics. First, some sociodemographic data about the city are provided and then the primary data about spatial distribution are analyzed, taking into account the sex and marital status variables. Spatially, the results give a well-defned cartography of poverty in the region, which socially highlights elderly women and widows or pensioners as well as other emerging groups.
