Powstanie i rozwój organizacji terrorystycznych na terytorium państw dysfunkcyjnych na przykładzie Państwa Islamskiego
Journal Title: Gdańskie Studia Międzynarodowe - Year 2015, Vol 13, Issue 1
Abstract
Dysfunctional states, also known as failed states, constitute one of the biggest threats to international security in contemporary world. Dysfunctionality affects particularly these states which wage long‑standing wars as well as these which struggle with poverty and low level of economic growth. The erosion of state creates favourable circumstances for rise and development of different organizations, also terrorist organizations which are independent from the legal authorities. The lack of supervision and control over the territory as well as decrease of the capacity of the regulation of social processes favours the expansion of illegal activities such as smuggling of drugs or trade of weapons which become a source of income for the terrorists. Islamic State is an example of an organization which raised and develops on the territory of formally sovereign states – Iraq and Syria. Long‑standing war conflicts caused downfall of statehood and significant weakening of central authorities.
