PRAGMALINGUISTIC ASPECTS OF „BENEFIT” VERBALIZATION IN THE HISTORY OF RUSSIAN LINGUA-CULTURE

Abstract

The purpose: to analyse pragmalinguistic features of the concept of PROFIT in the lexicographic data recorded in the Dictionary of Russian of the XI–XVII centuries and in the dictionary of proverbs of the Russian people by V. I. Dahl. Finding: the Russian language perception shows relevance and importance of benefit. Despite the absence of words выгоды and нажива in the above-named dictionary, the meaning benefit, the profit got in trade’ is documented in a lexeme of a Turkic origin барышъ which has no negative estimation during the studied period. Results: the attitude to profit in ordinary Russian consciousness, according to the paroemiological fund collected by V. I. Dahl, is inconsistent: the aspiration to receive profit/benefit in trade isn’t condemned, at the same time the person who immersed himself in pursuit of profit is designated in language by lexemes with negative connotations: корыстолюбецъ (profiteer), прибытколюбецъ. The axiological level of language perception testifies importance of ways to bring something into profit which are estimated from ethical positions. Justice, honesty (righteousness) are indispensable conditions of receiving profit, its legitimization.
