Production of hydrogen from dimethyl ether over catalysts

Abstract
Reforming of dimethyl ether (DME SR) is one of the desired sources of hydrogen for fuel cells, if proper catalysts are chosen. In this article, designed methods in the field of catalyst for dimethyl ether reforming are analyzed. The activity of dimethyl ether hydrolysis is investigated over zeolite ZSM-5 and Al2O3, and CD501 catalysts is tested activity and selectivity for methanol steam reforming, which are developed by our laboratory. Catalytic reactions of steam reforming of dimethyl ether to hydrogen-rich gas are studied in a fixed-bed continuous-flow reactor at a temperature of 160 ~ 400℃ under atmospheric pressure over a mechanical mixture of catalysts for DME steam reforming. The results show that ZSM-5 mixed with CD501 catalysts have high low-temperature activity and good selectivity, dimethyl ether conversion increases with reaction temperature, Al2O3 combined with CD501 begins to produce hydrogen at 270 ℃.Reformer and future research work in the area are suggested.
