Abstract
In this article, production of trifid aluminum composite with reinforcing particles of carbon nanotubes and B_4 C with powder metallurgy method has been investigated. To prepare a sample, aluminum alloy 5083 powder with particle sized less than 53 microns and particles of B_4 C and carbon nanotube were used. Powder samples were prepared with the rotary mill under control of argon atmosphere; with the ball to powder ratio of 10: 1 with 0, 5 and 10 percent volume of B_4 C and 5 percent volume of carbon nanotube for 5 hours with 1% Stearic acid. To prevent oxidation of powders, lacuna of the mill has been evacuated in Glove box. The samples with the diameter of 3 and height of 1 centimeter were prepared after weighing of powder with using a unilateral hot compaction in temperature of 380 degrees centigrade with the force of 450 kg of Newton. For complete Sinter, samples were placed in the furnace tube. Achieved samples went under following tests: Brinell hardness testing, the wear, roughness and superficial subducted creep. It has been cleared that a hardness of composite increased with the increase in reinforcing particles of B_4 C. The results of the Scanning electron microscope image (SEM) from the wear cross section of samples and pin abrasion indicate different mechanism of the wearing. Mechanisms of layering (Laminate mechanism), in the presence of carbon nanotubes and scratch mechanism in the composite containing 10% volume B4C was determined. Also it was found that with the increase in percent volume of B4C particles and hybridization of the composite, abrasion resistance of this composite compared to the case reinforced with carbon Nanotube 20 Newton and 10 Newton loading were obtained about 3 times and 10 time, respectively. It was determined that in composite with the increase in percent volume of B_4 C particles, creep resistance increases. It also observed that roughness of friction surface of composite containing 5% volume carbon nanotube is higher compared to the hybridized samples. Non-uniform distribution and the aggregation of the CNT in the composite sample resulted in high porosity and were also detected as the cause of reduction in the properties of the sample.
