Pulmonary atelectasis by compression of aortic aneurysm

Journal Title: JOURNAL OF FUNCTIONAL VENTILATION AND PULMONOLOGY - Year 2017, Vol 8, Issue 25

Abstract

The arterial aneurysm is a localized irreversible dilatation of an artery of more than 50% of its size, with a loss of parallelism of its edges. Atelectasis is a collapse of the pulmonary parenchyma by obstruction of a main or segmental bronchus of intrinsic or extrinsic origin. The compression of the bronchi by an aortic aneurism is rare. We report a case of left pulmonary atelectasis from compression of the main bronchus by a giant aortic aneurysm, associated with an arterial pulmonary hypertension in a 54 year-old woman diagnosed at angioscanner performed following an acute chest pain. Our aim is to describe an extrinsic origin, vascular of the pulmonary atelectasis.
