Quality of life of women with osteoporosis – review of literature

Abstract
Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mass and architectural derangements leading to an increased fracture risk. Evaluation of the quality of life of patients with osteoporosis concerns the physical, emotional, social and pain QoL domains. Quality of life can be measured to compare the effect of different treatments of osteoporosis. The as-sessment of quality of life is also useful in epidemiological studies to estimate the burden of disease and to evaluate the effectiveness of different treatments. The principal goals of health care for these patients are to maintain independence and preserve good quality of life.
