QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF AXIONOMEN SEMES IN MODERN ENGLISH

Abstract
The purpose of the article is to describe the results of researching semes array generalized from the English axionomen lexical meanings. The object of this study is the semantic structure of English axionomen which are qualified as determined linguistic units denoting philosophical, world outlook, scientific, social, political, moral, religious, legal, aesthetic values taken from the lexicographical interpretative sources. The subject of this study is quantitative and qualitative characteristics of 244 axionomen semes. Methodology of the selection of such methods as seme analysis of lexicographic definitions, formalized analysis of lexical semantics (step-identification procedure) well as componental and statistical analysis are used in this linguistic research. Usage of mono- and polyfunctional semes rate as well as their system relationships is the finding of research. According to the degree of axionomen polysemy the composition of 240 semes are divided into 12 complexes. 4 combined semes are separately revealed in lexical meanings of either polysemantic or monosemantic axionomens. The practical value of the research is to use its results for fundamental studies of all lexico-semantic sub-systems of value paradigms of the Ukrainian, English and French language societies.
