Journal Title: Δόξα / Докса. Збірник наукових праць з філософії та філології - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue
Abstract
The interpretations of the rational soul by Ukrainian thinkers of the XVII century – K. Sokovych, I. Gisel and S. Yavorsky – are considered. Attention is drawn to the peculiarities of understanding this soul as the human soul, its origin, nature and properties, in particular its intelligence and will. K. Sakovich interpreted the rational soul as a human soul according to the Christian religion. Considerable attention was paid by him to the functioning of the soul after death. I. Gisel was more inclined to scholastic commentators of his time. He analized detailly each concept about the definition of the soul by Aristotle. S. Yavorsky also paid his attention to scholastical aristotelism. He analyzed the properties of the human soul – intellect and will, described the skills that depend to them in details. The evolution of views on the nature and properties of a rational soul is observed.
