READING AS A WAY OF STUDY AND AS A KIND OF SPEECH ACTIVITY

Abstract
The article deals with problems connected with reading as a method of instruction and as a kind of speech activity, one of the main practical goals of teaching a foreign language at the school. The modern views of German and Ukrainian linguists regarding reading, its role in social changes, its importance in studying for personal development are analyzed. It is established that the reading of foreign texts develops thinking, helps to understand the features of the foreign language system and to better understand the features of the native language. The information that the student receives from foreign texts forms his worldview, enriches him with his country-specific knowledge of history, culture, economics, politics, everyday life of the country whose language he studies. It was investigated how it was reading in the Middle Ages, its specialization and influence on reading the latest media, especially the computerization of the whole social life. It is suggested to study better the notions of "media competence" and its impact on the adoption of didactic solutions. In Germany, comprehensive studies of the use of media by children and adolescents were conducted. Probably, such researches should be spent in our country too. The aim of the work is to analyze the modern views of German and Ukrainian linguists, as regards reading, the impact on it of modern computer technologies and other technical means. The tasks are then variable, the language material of the exercises changes, combined, becomes more complex. The reading technique includes a whole complex of automated skills that lead to quickly perceiving graphic images of words, automatically correlating them with the sound images and meanings of these words.
