Abstract
This article reveals the fate of Mikhail Mikhailovich Shapovalov, the commander of the 1st separate rifle corps, who betrayed his homeland on August 14, 1942 during the battle for the Caucasus. The reasons that made him break the oath are investigated. The work is designed for a wide range of readers and will be of interest to all lovers of military history.
