REGIONAL FEATURES OF STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES OF TECHNOGENICALLY TRANSFORMED AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS

Abstract

Purpose. To evaluate technogenic transformation of aquatic ecosystems which is one of the most important problems of environmental studies. The origin and consequences of anthropogenic transformation of the river ecosystem were generally characterized and investigated, as an integrated conceptual aquatic ecosystem. The aquatic ecosystem consist of the Nyvka and Irpin rivers, both aquatic systems belong to the Dnieper basin, and the permanent trophic connection makes it possible to consider them as the conceptual majority of interconnected constituents. Methodology. The long term monitoring data have been used. Chemical parameters and biological components of rivers ecosystem have been analyzed with the help of standardized methods. The use of ecological indices of structural and functional opportunities of aquatic ecosystems to extend the opportunities of standardized methods has been proposed as well. Results. The structural and functional transformation of the human-affected Irpin and Nyvka aquatic ecosystem was investigated due to development and introduction of the ecological indices of impact, condition and response assessment. Also, we analyzed: balance of ecological capacity, plastic metabolism, self-biotic mechanism, technogenic impact and other characteristics with the help of ecological indices. Originality. For the first time, the origin and consequences of anthropogenic transformation of the aquatic ecosystem, as an integrated conceptual model of river systems, has been generally characterized and investigated. The basic principle of keeping safe functioning of the aquatic ecosystem is the guarding of their biotic self-regulation mechanism changes (fundamentals of the water bodies functioning). Practical value. The new methodology for regulation structural and functional opportunities of technogenic transformed aquatic ecosystems has been developed. This methodology interacts with international guidelines and recommendations of environmental sustainability. Ecological indices aimed at achieving sustainable development goals. They can provide an early warning to prevent environmental setback It has been proposed to consider and implement of the ecological assessment of the Irpin River as integrated conceptual aquatic ecosystem, which consists of a small and medium river. It has been estimated the interaction of natural and anthropogenic factors and their consequences in the system “natural environment (the Irpin river) − human-transformed environment (the Nyvka river)”. It has been established that aquatic ecosystems, transformed under technogenic impact, are stable systems within the class of their water quality.
