Relationship between Daily Living Activities, Life Satisfaction and Cognitive Functions in the Elderly

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Changes in the cognitive function in old age may cause deterioration in individual and social functioning and affect the individual's domains of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate relationship between daily living activities, life satisfaction and the level of cognitive functions in the elderly METHODS: The study was conducted with 64 elderly people in the nursing home. Data was colleceted with Descriptive Characteristics Form, Mini Mental State Scale, Barthel Daily Living Activities Index and Life Satisfaction Scale. In the statistical analysis of the data; frequencies, percentages, Khi Kare test, Mann-Whitney U test and Pearson correlation analysis were used. The level of statistical significance was accepted as.05 in the study RESULTS: It was determined that the elderly with cognitive impairment had a statistically significant worse life satisfaction and they were dependent on daily life activities. There was a significant positive correlation between cognitive status and physical independence level and life satisfaction. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Impairment in cognitive functions is related to the daily lives and life satisfaction of the elderly.
