REPRESENTAÇÕES DE FLORESTAS: A INDÚSTRIA E OS CONFLITOS DE RACIONALIDADES PRESENTES NA REVISTA O PAPEL DURANTE O PERÍODO DE INDUSTRIALIZAÇÃO DO BRASIL (1939-1965)

Abstract
This research aims to recognize and analyze the representations of forests, present in the magazine O Papel, a publication published since 1939 to the present, and which aims to express the interests of the pulp, paper and related products production industry. I was analyzed the period from 1939 to 1965, marked by the industrialization of Brazil, initiated by the changes promoted by the first government of President Getúlio Vargas, when the focus of the economy changed from agrarian to industrial. The period ends in the moments that preceded the almost 20 years of civil-military governments, marked as a different period from those that preceded and followed it. The results point to the hegemony of the representation of forests as sources of resources and services, which can become “more productive” through human intervention. From the historiography and the theoretical-methodological framework employed, based on Environmental History, we observe that this type of representation is based on the overvaluation of technique and the market economy, and it affects in many ways the deliberation on how to act regarding nature, in order to include it or remove it from the history.
