LEAN MANUFACTURING, FLEXIBILIDADE E A INDÚSTRIA BRASILEIRA

Journal Title: Ideação - Year 2019, Vol 21, Issue 2

Abstract

Since the oil crisis, the core countries' industries have redesigned their operations to the model designed by Toyota, named Lean Manufacturing, deploying concepts and tools to provide greater efficiencies and greater flexibility. The success of these deployments depends on multiple variables, among which are the industry conditions and their history. This paper aims to relate the historical conditions of Brazilian industry with the characteristics of Lean Manufacturing, pointing out conceptual constraints that may limit the results of the Japanese model in Brazilian companies. As an illustrative example, the Brazilian automotive industry is highlighted, given its presence and representativeness in Brazil's industrial development. It is concluded that the implantation of the model in the country faces even more robust barriers than in the central countries, since the formation of the Brazilian industry has unique peculiarities that increase the barriers compared to the central countries.
