REPRESENTATIONS SOCIOLINGUISTIQUES ET DENOMINATION DES DIALECTES BERBERES EN ALGERIE

Abstract
The words, Berber, Tamaziɣt, Kabyle, Chaoui, Mouzabite...etc, are used to design a language, a dialect of a language or dialects of the same language. Linguistically, the standard Berber language does not exist. The speakers use generic denominations to describe their language (in singular); the one they consider to be unified and homogenous. The sociolinguistic representations, which the Berber speakers have of their language practices, underlie their attitudes towards their langauge. These attitudes influence the process of denomination of the Berber dialects. Neverthless, in the same community (here Kabyle speakers), there are pejorative denominations that describe some Berber dialects. In this study, we are interested in the different names designing the Berber dialects and the pejorative denominations of certain dialects.
