Research and evaluation of the arch stone bridge structure state after long-term operation

Abstract

The results of the stone bridge structure investigation after long-term operation are presented. The defects of the bridge structures that reduce their reliability and durability were found. Modern methods of diagnostics were applied to assess the risk level of defects, rate of their growth and prediction of their future propagation. The impact of the technical state of the bridge spans on the frequency of their natural oscillations at the vehicles driving was determined. The cross-country running of heavy goods vehicles produces the biggest impact on the destruction of the bridge structure. The numerical simulation of the process of the bridge span loading by the wheel of the vehicle was carried out and the causes of longitudinal cracks formation in the bridge spans were identified. For the safe operation of the bridge, the weight of vehicles is limited to 8 tons and the need for the overhaul involving the strengthening of defective bearing structures was determined.
