Research progress in white matter genetic imaging biomarkers for screening people at high risk for schizophrenia
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 5
Abstract
The global disease burden of schizophrenia is very heavy. The epidemiological survey of mental disorders in the PLA shows that schizophrenia has the highest prevalence rate, about 0. 16% , and is the most common cause of hospitalization for mental illness. This disease seriously endangers the mental health of officers and soldiers, affects the security and stability of troops, disrupts normal military training and even undermines the fighting force of troops. Therefore, how to screen high-risk population of schizophrenia in the physical examination of conscripts has become a focal issue. By integrating multi-omics information as well as vigorously developing the application of biological databases in the military, the harm of schizophrenia to soldiers will be minimized in a comprehensive and multidimensional manner in terms of accurate prediction, early identification, diagnosis and treatment and so on. Thus, the discovery of its biological markers becomes a crucial measure to prevent people at high risk for schizophrenia from entering the force. The current research in this direction is still in the exploratory stage, and no definite and effective biomarkers have been found yet. In order to further play the role of the biological basis of schizophrenia in military applications, it is urgent to actively develop and apply biomarkers for screening high-risk population for schizophrenia.
