Responsibility from the perspectives of philosophy and science
Journal Title: Polish Law Review - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
In the first part of the paper, two methods of philosophical study of moral responsibility are presented: rational and naturalistic. Next, the results of the research on the conditions of moral responsibility based on both methods will be discussed. These conditions aim to find a place for moral responsibility in the folk image of the world. It will be showed that both methods lead to similar results – the condition of responsibility ascription is the capacity to control one’s action. In the last part of the paper, empirical research pertaining to responsibility and their relationship with folk intuitions will be assessed.
