RESULT VARIATION RELATED TO A REPEATABILITY AND A REPRODUCIBILITY OF TRIBOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract
The considerations presented concern the issue of the variation of tribological research results. The research was conducted within the chosen area of process parameters in a tribological laboratory. The variations of experimental results are analysed in two aspects. The first one concerns the repeatability of tribological properties – the friction coefficient and the value of wear. The second concerns the reproducibility of results from different tribotesters. The research encompassed the tribological properties of three different pairs of materials and proved the dependence of the variation of measured properties on the process parameters. Based on the results, the research proved both good reproducibility of the friction coefficient and good repeatability for particular tribotesters, especially for the T10V, if the values of process parameters are suitably established. In the case of wear, the strong influence of the materials on the wear variation was observed. For only the frictional pair steel–ceramics was the possibility of achieving good reproducibility and repeatability proved. In the area of analysed process parameters, for both the pairs steel-steel and steel with CrN-coating-ceramics, the measurements of tribological characteristics are neither reproducible nor repeatable.
