Retrograde amnesia after intentional poisoning with isoniazid in a 31-year old male with drug addiction: a clinical case

Abstract

Causing intentional infliction of harm to health by convicted is an actual problem of national and world penitentiary medicine. Often patients with intentional poisonings come to hospitals in the state when determining the causes of the disease is difficult. A special place among the deliberate poisoning is given to anti-tuberculosis drugs due to their wide use in clinical practice for treatment and prevention. Toxic doses of Isoniazid produce seizures (grand mal), metabolic acidosis, hyperglycemia, and coma. Toxic effects of Isoniazid have the potential to intensify in individuals suffering from addiction and/or chronic hepatitis in individuals. Thus, the systematic use of tropicamide as a hallucinogen, causes irreversible changes in liver and brain, which, in its turn exacerbates the toxic effects of Isoniazid. This article describes a case of retrograde amnesia after intentional poisoning with Isoniazid in a 31 year old male patient suffering from tropicamide drug addiction.
