Role Of Primary Orif Using Precontoured LCP In The Treatment Of Comminuted And Displaced Fracture Clavicle - A Prospective Study Of 20 Cases

Journal Title: National Journal of Medical and Dental Research - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 3

Abstract

Introduction: Clavicle fractures are usually treated conservatively. However, in displaced comminuted fractures the conservative treatment has increased incidence of nonunion and poor functional outcome. With the recent advances in fixation techniques and better implants, there is renewed interest seen worldwide on primary ORIF in cases of displaced, comminuted clavicle fractures. Material and method: 20 patients (19yrs-57yrs, 16 males, 4 females) with displaced, comminuted clavicular fractures (17 middle 3rd and 3 lateral 3rd) were treated with primary ORIF between January 2015 – August 2017. (Robinson type-2B1 fifteen, type-2 B2 two, type-3 B1 three patients). Surgery was done within 1st week under G.A. using LCP. Postoperatively mobilization started at the end of 2nd week with armpouch sling. Results:Excellent functional outcome in 16 (80 %) and good in 3 (15 %) and fair 1(5%) patient. Conclusion: ORIF of midshaft fracture clavicle using pre-contoured LCP restores the strut function of clavicle resulting in excellent to good functional outcome in 95% of cases. Hence it is recommended as a choice of treatment for all displaced, comminuted midshaft fracture clavicle.
