Romania on the way to the Peace of Bucharest of 1918

Abstract

The main trends of development of Romania in the First World War were analyzed in that article. Romania managed to keep the lead in population among the other Balkan States and military potential at the early of 1914. With the beginning of the new war Bucharest took a position of neutrality. By middle of 1915 it was able to retain its status. In the summer of 1915 the Entente still involved Romania to the military alliance against the Central block. Romania declared war on it. The military company of 1916 was ended crash for the country, its army was defeated in Transylvania and Dobrudge. The Germans occupied 70% of the territory of Romania and the Romanian government was forced to sign the separate peace with Germany. At the same time, the defeat of the latter in 1918 allowed Romania to return to the Rights of the ally to the Entente. As a result, it was able to take an active part in the Paris Peace Conference of 1919-1920. Based on its results, Romania annexed Transylvania, Bessarabia, Bukovina and part of Banat.
