Journal Title: Мова - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 21

Abstract

The article is about comparative analysis of genetically non-related languages equivalent words semantics. The object of the article is Russian word zvezda and English star analysis. The semantic equivalence of these words is natural as both of them determine the same lexical notion, however this equivalence can never be absolute. The peculiarity of the words is the high level of their semantic concurrence. These words can be a good example of mental and linguistic unanimity of different national and cultural societies. It is seen not only in their denotative meaning identity but also in their analogical semantic structures, matches of main fragments of their semantics, existence of figurative lexical and semantic options that evidences about their equivalence even in the creative thinking level. The perception of the star as «a destiny, fate of a person is also the same for different ethnoses. One more noteworthy fact is that in both languages words звезда and star determine outstanding person, vivid personality. The differences in meaning are shown in concrete realizations of these lexical and semantic variants, their interrelationship and usage activity. These interpretations are determined by concrete conditions and life circumstances of the society, its history and culture.
