Sexual life quality in women with physical disability

Abstract
Introduction. In accordance with the Declaration of Sexual Rights, adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) Sexual rights are universal human rights based on the inherent freedom, dignity and equality of all human beings. The Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate sexual life quality in women with physical disability. Material and methods. The study involved a population of 87. women aged 18-45. years. The research group consisted of 43 physically disabled women and the control group – 44 sexually active healthy women at the same age. The study tool was a questionnaire consisting of a general part (socio-demographic data, medical and gynecological history), a part dedicated to sexual behaviors and Female Sexual Function Index to asses sexual life. Results. The mean age of the research group was 33.02±8.63 years compared with 29.48±5.39 in controls. 72% of physically disabled women had an sexual partner; 30% of them and 50% of healthy ones used contraception. The studied women gained significantly lower scores in three FSFI domains: sexual desire, lubrication and sexual pain compared with the controls. Clinically significant sexual disorders were diagnosed in 41.86% of women with physical disability and in 13.64% of healthy ones (p=0.003). Conclusions. Physical disability determines the outcome of sexual disorders in women.
