Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2008, Vol 24, Issue 4

Abstract

Background. The aim of this study was to evaluate functional parameters in students of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw.Material and methods. The study was conducted in a group of 81 students of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw. The age of the students was 20-23 years. They were divided into two groups: The first group consisted of the students of the Faculty of Physical Education (50 people), and the second group – of the students of the Faculty of Physiotherapy (31 people). We used Saunders Digital Inclinometer and a computer set to evaluate the subjects' body posture.Results. The results obtained in both groups were statistically significant as for lumbar spine flexion. We observed a correct body posture in 44% of group I subjects and in 61,4% group II. Only group I students (34%) spared more than 10 hours for training. 22% people from I group and 23% people from II group did not play any sport.Conclusions. 1. In both groups we could observe changes in selected functional parameters of body posture. 2. Statistically significant between group differences were obtained in lumbar spine flexion. 3. The duration of physical activity affect shaping lordosis-kyphosis and lumbar spine mobility.
