Simulation Technique in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language
Journal Title: Batı Anadolu Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi (BAED) - Year 2014, Vol 5, Issue 10
Abstract
Simulation is a technique that is using in different disciplines. One of the disciplines in which simulations can be used is teaching Turkish as a foreign language. This study aims to give theoretical knowledge about simulation technique in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Initially, essential elements such as reality of function, simulated environment and structure of simulations are introduced. Secondly, stages of using simulation technique are presented to organize a simulation. The parts of preparation, introduction, activity and debriefing are introduced. Then, how to improve language skills with using simulations is explained. Four language skill are discussed one by one. Then, the roles of a teacher and a student in simulation technique is explained. Then, the learning environment for a simulation is explained. In simulations, defining groups are very important. For this reason, some methods such as random assignment, self-‐‑selection, and facilitator assignment for assigning students to groups are introduced. Finally, benefits and drawbacks of running simulations in teaching Turkish as a foreign language are discussed. It is thought that this theoretical study can be seen as a guide by teachers who want to use simulation technique in teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
