Single sample Overlapping Doppler filter bank for processing Real Time Continuous Data

Abstract

Real time continuous Doppler filtering is used to calculate the spectrum of the input signal to detect the presence of random disturbances and properly isolate them. For continuous input data this can be done in two ways. In first method the data is divided into blocks and FIT is performed on each block to evaluate its spectral content. The resolution of this method is 'N' where 'N' is the order of the input block. This method cannot pinpoint the exact sample time of occurrence of disturbance. However in Second method the data spectral evaluation is done on sample by sample basis isolating the disturbance precisely. It is very effective technique available to identify the random and abrupt faults in the input data. The disturbance constrained in time domain data is spread out in frequency domain corrupting the frequency content in adjacent frequency bins. Using one sample overlap Linear filtering we can isolate the disturbance from input data and use the information for proper analysis. The sudden discontinuity is identified by sudden increase in side lobe levels of the Doppler fitter bank. The effect of the disturbance persists for data length of 'N' where N being the order. But by setting suitable thresholds it can be identified and can be isolated. We have presented architecture to perform the same on FPGA using custom designed DFT block and reordered the data now for single sample overlap operation.
