Situational crime prevention

Abstract
Based on the familiarization with foreign literature, study of the modern experience of a number of Western countries on crime prevention, the article analyzes one of the directions of a crimes reducing strategy in the form of situation-centered prevention. There are references to Western scholars, whose works helped to create the theory of situation-centered crime prevention. The article contains basic theories of this direction of crime reduction. There have been highlighted the key components of situation-centered prevention, namely: complication of crime commitment; increasing the riskiness of criminal activity; reduction of the advantages of criminal behavior; provocations reduction; avoidance of the practice of discharge. There have been given special examples and effectiveness of the use of situation-centered crime prevention measures in Western countries. There have been provided offers and recommendations on the introduction of experience of other countries on situation-centered crime prevention in law-making and law-enforcement activity in Ukraine. There have been found features of the abovementioned type of crimes reducing strategy. They are associated with subjects, objects of preventive influence, effectiveness, forms and other peculiarities of situation-centered prevention. It has been noted that situation-centered prevention should be the foundation of a new model of law-enforcement practice in Ukraine.
