SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT. THE CASE OF MIKÓ IMRE COLLEGE FOR ADVANCES STUDIES
Journal Title: MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 10
Abstract
This article provides evidence on how to evaluate NPOs activity using Social Return of Investment (SROI) framework. It is a well-known fact that NPOs face several problems in addressing competitiveness since the instruments used to measure their activities rely more on qualitative and general quantitative indicators. Considering the dynamic of the projects developed, the indicators used, to weigh organization performance, are not very complex, neither evaluated on a continuous base, which leads to a lack of transparency with regard to the way resources are being used. The authors have underlined a review of SROI literature, providing an example of how to apply this instrument in the case of an NPO operating on Romanian Market. The study confirms that evaluative SROI six-step model can be used to measure the impact of an NPO providing more insights of the activities developed and of the return provided to strengthen the relationship with major stakeholders, showing their efficiency in approaching social problems. This research provides relevant guidance for future development in the field, proposing a practical example of how SROI was used within Mikó Imre College.
