Abstract

Under the conditions of state-building in Ukraine, that is going through hard times of its history because of the war and crisis developments of economy, the study of the problems of economic history is of specific interest. In this regard, much attention is paid to the research of the socioeconomic history of Ukrainian Hetman state of the XVIIth - the last third of the XVIIIth century in Ukrainian Soviet historical and economic studies in the 20s of the XXth century, to the determination of their main centers, representatives and writings. In 1920s certain conditions for the Ukrainian national and cultural revival were created, and Ukrainization policy in general contributed to the further development of investigations in the field of economic history. However, there was a lack of specialists in economics in Ukraine and Soviet Government had to rely on the pre-revolutionary human resources. At that time in Soviet Ukraine there were several centers for socioeconomic researches functioning in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Nizhyn. First of all they united Ukrainian historians who specialized in the study of the economy history of Cossack Hetmanate in the period of XVII – XVIII centuries, publishing monographs and articles devoted to the history of agrarian relations, production sector, trade, financial system, state farm management. Socioeconomic school in economic science started to develop. It was represented by such foremost scientists as O.Ohlobyn and M. Slabchenko, who became the most productive in the field of economic history of Ukrainian Hetman State. Despite the repression and pressure from the government in the mid of 1920s scientific investigations of resumptive and synthetical character appeared in Ukrainian economic science. Their authors, analyzing socioeconomic history, naturally combined pure historical and historical and economic approaches. The latter did not become dominate though. One can conclude, that the researches of the Soviet Ukrainian historians, covering all the function fields of the economy of Left-bank Ukraine during the important state-building period of latter half of the XVIIth - the last third of the XVIIIth century, which was the period when economic and political institutions emerged and functioned in Ukraine, did not lose the scientific value and became a heritage of the world historical and economic science. Their writings definitely deserve further comprehensive study.
