SOME PECULIARITIES OF SUBSTANTIATION OF PARTICIPLES IN AZERBAIJANI AND ARABIC LANGUAGES

Journal Title: Закарпатські філологічні студії - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2

Abstract

The urgency of solving the problem in the field of word formation requires consideration of the semantic relations of the formed words. An analysis of the scientific and theoretical sources of the problem shows that there is a number of issues that require an in-depth consideration. One of these problems is the formation of new nouns through the substantivization. The purpose of this study is to consider the transition of participles into nouns. In the process of consideration, a description was given of the characteristics of participles and nouns, as well as those changes that occur with the substantivization. Since the participles are derived words composed of the verb by adding certain affixes, resorting to the morphological way of word-formation, they also reflect the grammatical attributes of nouns in the context of substantivization. In the Azerbaijani and Arabic languages, the manifestation of such grammatical attributes takes place in different ways. The categorical differences between the two languages also manifest themselves in a special way. In general, both in the Azerbaijani and Arabic languages, the expression of the substantivized forms is a manifestation of the regular processes inherent in the universal semantic nature of participles. This form, located on the border of the verbal lexeme, and at the same time possessing a component that enhances substantivized semantics, determines the level of the verb and noun ratio in the newly formed concept.
