SPACE IN THE BULGARIAN PICTURE OF THE WORLD

Journal Title: Мова - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 28

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the language means of the vertical spatial worldview of the Bulgarian. The object of study is the Bulgarian lexical and grammatical units of spatial semantics, the subject of study are the factors that shape the perception of space in the Bulgarian world picture. As a result of the conducted research it is fi xed that the opposition “up and down” for the Bulgarian is more signifi cant than “back and forth”. The most interesting in this regard is the semantic development of the words grief and dale. In addition to their immediate meanings, in poetic and colloquial texts they can mean “back and forth”, as well as “approximately, more or less, nothing.” Contrasting the top-bottom is one of the most ancient mythological coordinates. It fi nds itself in stable combinations, riddles, anecdotes. Conclusions. The Balkan space with its geographical coordinates, features of relief and nature forms among the peoples inhabiting its special worldview. Mountainous terrain and hot climate largely determine the features of the material and spiritual life of the Bulgarians. Geographical conditions, features of the relief have led to a special perception of space and orientation in it. The territory of Bulgaria is notable vertically. Features of the national relief are refl ected in fi ction. The mountains occupy a special place in the Bulgarian picture of the world. The mountains are a cross-cutting image of many Bulgarian poets. The Bulgarian language is also one of those that retains the ancient unbundling of place and direction. Rich ethnocultural information contains paremia and a way of building dwellings. Vertically, housing resembles a trinitarian division of space: the ceiling (the sky) — the space in which a person lives — sex (earth); “Top” forms a semantic series with “heaven,” “happiness,” “life.”
