SPANISH WORD CLASSIFICATION BY THEIR INFLECTION FEATURES

Abstract
The present article is devoted to the main issues of building up the classification, which groups Spanish words, by their inflection features. For this purpose, a formal model of word inflection was proposed, the model consisting of changeable (quasi-flexion) and non-changeable (quasi-stem) components. Quasi-flexions may cover an affix, the whole word form (in case of suppletive forms), a part of word stem (in case of non-regular inflection) and word ending. The paradigm is proposed to be built by using a respective set of quasi-flexions added to the quasi-stem of a word. Based on the theory of lexicographical systems by Prof. Volodymyr A. Shyrokov all Spanish words have been categorized by paradigmatic types, grammatical classes, grammatical groups and paradigmatic classes. The set of main inflection parameters has been cho- sen to match a Spanish word to one or another paradigmatic type. Additional parameters such as standard / non-stand- ard inflection, word structure variation etc. are intented to put a word in grammatical class and group. The words have been grouped into paradigmatic classes by common set of quasi-flexions. The Spanish inflection system is composed of five paradigmatic types, namely nominal (nouns and adjectives, possessive pronouns), verbal (regular, non-regular, full paradigm and defective verbs), pronominal (personal and reflective pronouns), determinantal (articles and demonstrative pronouns) and inflexible (prepositions, adverbs, conjunctions and cardinal numbers) type. Further, each paradigmatic type has been subdivided into grammatical classes; the letter being split into grammatical groups. In each grammatical group may contain one or more paradigmatic classes. In Spanish the words of the same part of speech are possible to belong to different paradigmatic classes while the words of different part of speech may belong to the same paradigmatic class. In prospect, our research results are planned to be used for compiling electronic didactic dictionary of Spanish inflection as well as for elaborating and improving methods of teaching Spanish languages, in particular Spanish inflection.
