The article is devoted to the study of the epistemological foundations of P. Tillich’s theology. The concept of “controlling” and “perceiving” cognition, biopolarity of the cognitive mind, the process of cognition as a certain form of communication and remoteness, socio-political, historical-philosophical and theological connotations of the epistemological concept of the thinker are analyzed
