Splenic Infarction in Plasmodium Vivax Malaria
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF MEDICAL COLLEGE CHANDIGARH - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 1
Abstract
Plasmodium vivax is generally regarded to cause benign uncomplicated disease. Most cases of complicated and severe malaria are attributed to Plasmodium falciparum in our country. However, recently a surge of severe malarial complications is being recognized with Plasmodium vivax mono-infection as well. We report the case of a 33 year old female presenting with fever and severe left hypochondrial pain, with multiple well defined hypoechoic areas in spleen on imaging. After appropriate work up, she was diagnosed to be suffering from P. Vivax malaria with splenic infarcts.
