Strains and Needs of the Asylum Seeker Children who are under Temporary Protection Status

Abstract
Purpose of the research; The aim of this study is to determine the difficulties, problems and needs of asylum-seeking children living in Turkey with temporary protection status in the context of social work. In this study, the general screening model was used to determine the difficulties faced by refugee children under temporary protection. The population of the research consists of asylum seeker children between the ages of 7-17 who are under temporary protection status living in the provinces of Mardin and İzmir. Snowball sampling method was used for the purpose of the research. The research data were obtained by interviewing 400 refugee children, 200 from Mardin and 200 from Izmir, between January 2019 and February 2019. When the distribution of the difficulties faced by the children participating in the research is examined; 93% of them are sick because their houses cannot be heated, 44.5% of them are constantly ill because of their language problems, 67.4% of them are discriminated against because of language problems, 50% of them have difficulty in making friends with local children, 86.5% cannot be fed adequately determined. Given that refugee children are foreigners and have language problems, giving importance and priority to Turkish language education, which will facilitate their integration into society, will contribute to their social adaptation.
