STRUCTURAL-SEMANTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN CONTEMPORARY FICTIONAL DISCOURSE

Abstract
The structural and semantic characteristics of English phraseological units in contemporary fictional discourse are investigated. The author concludes that the ability of phraseological units to combine with the environment directly depends on its internal semantic and syntactic structure. Each phraseological unit for its language implementation has its lexical and grammatical environment. Phraseological units have been grouped and categorized in accordance with the type of structurally semantic and grammatical processes based on the morphological classification. Judging from the implemented morphological classification of phraseological units, we distinguish the following types of phraseological units: substantive, verbal, adverbial, adjectival and interjectional.
