Study of culture media for the in vitro conservation of cassava
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2002, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
Plant tissue culture constitutes an alternative for germplasm conservation in case of vegetatively propagated species. This approach permits to maintain collections in small places free from attach of diseases and catastrophes. Eleven variants from MS culture media were tested. Variants consist of different sucrose (20, 30 and 40 g.l-1) and manitol (0, 10, 20 y 30 g.l-1) concentrations in order to decrease the subculture number in the in vitro storage of Señorita and CEMSA 74-725 clones. Evaluations were carried out nine months after in vitro implantation based on: height (cm), internode number by plant, number of active leave, number of active roots and surviving percentage. After storage, explants were incubated for recovery in the described culture medium for in vitro cassava growing. A culture medium with the addition of 40 g.l-1 sucrose, 0.02 mg.l-1 BAP, 0.1 mg.l-1 de GA3 and 0.01 mg.l-1 ANA is recommended.

Lethal minimal dose of the herbicide BASTA R an in vitro plants of the papaya hybrid IBP 42-99
All the transformation systems developed up to the moment need to select those plants that contain the transgene introduced and eliminate the rest. One way is to use as scoreboard a resistance gene to an herbicide. The...
Variables associated with the productivity of Bambusa vulgaris var. Schard vulgaris. ex Wendl. and its kidnapping potential of carbon dioxide
Bamboos are important crops based on their potential for environmental services, carbon dioxide sequestration and timber production in a short period of time. In this study, eight variables associated with the productiv...
Use of biotechnology in the propagation of two species of bamboo
Physical qualities, low cost and availability of bamboo trees make the material ideal for building houses, furniture, decorative and utilitarian crafts. The development of new plantations is neeed for the sustainable u...
Translating theory into practice for conservation of germplasm of recalcitrant-seeded species
Recalcitrant seeds, which are metabolically-active and desiccation-sensitive, can be stored in the short-term at non-injurious temperatures under conditions precluding dehydration, but associated problems include fungal...
116/5000 Effect of applying a magnetic field on the in vitro germination of Rosmarinus officinalis L. seeds
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is a medicinal plant widely used due to its medicinal properties such as nervous system stimulant, antispasmodic, antiseptic, among others. However, blooms are sporadic, seeds viabi...
