Study of factors associated with mortality and morbidity in blunt trauma abdomen
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2019, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
Background:Number of such risk factors such as sex, the time interval between abdominal injury and surgery, shock at the time of admission, and cranial injury. To minimize morbidity and mortality in cases of abdominal trauma, risk factors for morbidity and mortality need to be systematically identified and studied.Aim: To identify the risk factors associated with mortality and morbidity in blunt abdominal trauma cases.Material and Methods:A total of 60 patientswere selected by simple random sampling method. The patients were admitted in trauma ward which was a part of a well-equipped modern trauma care system.Thorough clinical examination and clinical findings and relevant diagnostics investigation performed over patient. Details of external, skeletal and other associated injuries were noted. Laparatomy procedures were done. Results:We found mortality rate of 1.67% in our sample. Those patients who had involvement of gastro intestinal tract and abdominal tap done had higher risk of mortality. Those patients who suffered complication had higher risk of mortality when compared to those subjects who had no complications. Conclusion:Mortality and morbiditydue to blunt abdominal trauma can be reduced by simple measures like, better pre hospital care in the form of rapid transport to hospital from accident site by well-equipped ambulance, training of personal for field intervention andspecialized trauma care centers.

Study of effect of rational hyperoxia in perioperative period on rate of surgical site infection
Background: Oxygen supplemented at a concentration higher than 40–50 % for at least 2 h perioperatively is expected to reduce surgical site infections (SSI). Supplemental perioperative oxygen has been variously reported...
