Study of spindle cell sarcomas with their immunohistochemical analysis
Journal Title: Pathology And Laboratory Medicine - Year 2018, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
Background : Malignant mesenchymal neoplasm accounts for less than 1% of overall human burden of malignant tumours, but they are life threatening and may pose a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, since there are more than 50 histological subtypes of soft tissue tumours. Objective : To subtype spindle cell sarcomas on H&E sections and to differentiate between various spindle cell sarcomas with the help of IHC. Methods : This is a prospective study that comprises of 35 cases of adult spindle cell sarcomas reported in the pathology department of the super speciality Institute during the period from July 2015 to June2016. Results : The median age of incidence of soft tissue sarcoma was 43.5 years (18-85 years) with the male: female ratio 1:1.Most common site of origin is lower extremities. Most common histological diagnosis is of MPNST. The median age of incidence of soft tissue sarcoma was 43.5 years (18-85 years) with the male: female ratio 1:1.Most common site of origin is lower extremities. Most common histological diagnosis is of MPNST. Conclusion : The study can contribute to epidemiologic knowledge of spindle cell soft tissue sarcomas.
