STUDY ON STUDENT TEACHERS’ EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDES AND EXPECTATIONS CONCERNING THEIR PRACTICAL TRAINING

Abstract

This article presents the results of a study on student teachers’ educational and professional attitudes and expectations concerning their practical training. The study involved 4th-year students in the bachelor degree courses in Pre-school Education and Foreign Language, Pre-school and Primary School Education, Primary Education and Foreign Language at Vratsa Branch of St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo during the academic year 2017/2018. The study was conducted within "The Art of Mentoring the Transition from the University to the Educational Institutions" research project of Vratsa Branch of St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo in 2018. The diagnostic tool is a questionnaire that takes into account the results according to the 5-level Likert scale. A theoretical analysis is made of the key concepts attitudes, educational and professional attitudes and expectations in the context of student teachers’ practical training. The structure of attitudes and expectations is presented, and a model of their interaction is proposed. Based on this model is the questionnaire by means of which the survey was conducted. The components of the student teachers’ educational and professional attitudes and expectations are analyzed in the study. The data obtained will allow for future improvement of student teachers’ practical training.
